The Martinů Anthology: Celebrating 20 Years of the Martinů Revue
This book is a small selection of texts that appeared in the musical journal The Martinů Revue during the years 2000-2020. The magazine is not widely available, for this reason we have endeavoured to include in this book the most intriguing and valuable texts from the past two decades, which we have divided into four differently foucused chapters: Research - Martinů Remembered - Correspondence - Interviews. Whereas musicologists will welcome important information about discoveries of the composer's autographs in the Research section, the broader music community will appreciate Martinů Remembered for its precious testimonies from Martinů's contemporaries and friends (the pianists Rudolf Firkušný and Ivan Moravec, the dancer Zora Šemberová, the violinist Petr Rybář, the composer Jeroným Zajíček). The most insightful articles on Martinů's letters detail his correspondence with Serge Koussevitzky and Aaron Copland, with the pianist Rudolf Serkin, the choirmaster and composer Zdeněk Zouhar, and with the National Theatre in Prague.
English edition. Published by The International Martinů Circle in Prague in 2021.
