Bohuslav Martinů Complete Edition

The Bohuslav Martinů Complete Edition (BMCE) is a scholarly critical edition that presents the complete oeuvre of this major twentieth century composer for the first time, encompassing Martinů’s works in all their versions and arrangements, including newly discovered and previously unpublished compositions.

BMCE has been published by Bärenreiter Praha since 2015 in the form of scholarly music editions based on the study and treatment of all available sources. Using the latest methods of textual criticism and philology, it is intended for researchers and performers alike.

Each BMCE volume includes an extensive preface describing the genesis of the works, the circumstances of their first publication, and their historical reception in the context of the composer's oeuvre, as well as a detailed critical report by the editors. The facsimile section provides high-quality reproductions of musical and non-musical sources, which document selected editorial issues, historical performance practice, and abandoned versions.

The project has being realised by the Bohuslav Martinů at the behest of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation in Prague. BMCE is financially supported by Bohuslav Martinu Foundation, Martinů Stiftung in Switzerland, GA CR (Grant Agency of the Czech Republic), State Fund of Culture, private donors and other sources.

List of published volumes as well as purchase options can be found on the publisher's website (Bärenreiter).
